12 TB SAS drive for Dell servers

This 12 TB SAS hard drive operates at 7.2K RPM with a 12Gb/s interface in a 3.5 inch form factor. It is supplied new with a caddy for direct installation into compatible Dell PowerEdge and PowerVault systems. The drive adds high-capacity bulk storage to supported 14th, 15th and 16th generation servers.

Suits administrators expanding Dell server arrays

IT teams managing the listed PowerEdge R, T and C series servers can use this drive to increase raw storage capacity. Environments that require a different interface, a 2.5 inch form factor or higher spindle speeds for transaction-heavy workloads should evaluate alternative drives.

12Gb/s SAS interface determines compatibility

The drive connects via a 12Gb/s SAS interface, so the host controller or backplane must support this speed and connector type. Verify that the target server model appears in the supported list before purchase.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 12 TB SAS drive into a Dell R740 server and which step is often missed?

Slide the included caddy into a 3.5 inch SAS bay until the latch clicks, then verify the controller detects the drive at 12 Gb/s before initializing the array.

What maintenance or replacement will the MG07SCA12TEY need after extended operation?

The 7.2K RPM mechanical drive may require replacement once SMART reallocated-sector counts rise or bearing noise appears, typically after several years of continuous use.

Which limit appears first on the SAS 12 Gb/s interface during sustained sequential writes?

The 7.2K RPM spindle caps sustained throughput near the drive's internal media rate, so the mechanical transfer ceiling is reached before the 12 Gb/s link saturates.
