Fabric Expander Module for MX7000

The Dell MX7116N is a 25GbE Fabric Expander Module built for the PowerEdge MX7000 chassis. It occupies a Fabric A/B I/O sled slot and provides uplink connectivity for the internal compute fabric.

Suited for 25GbE fabric scaling

This module suits administrators expanding a PowerEdge MX7000 deployment with 25GbE fabric links. It is not for environments that require direct server-side NIC ports or chassis that lack the MX fabric sled architecture.

Dual 100GbE QSFP28-DD uplink ports

The decisive specification is the two 100GbE QSFP28-DD ports (CAT-22517-CA). These uplinks carry aggregated 25GbE traffic from the sled to the data-centre core, so the part only fits networks designed around this port speed and form factor.

Questions about this item

Should I choose the MX7116N module for a 25GbE fabric or a different I/O sled?

The MX7116N is a 25GbE Fabric Expander Module in the PowerEdge MX Fabric A/B I/O sled form factor, designed for the MX7000 chassis.

What does the 25GbE rating mean once the module is installed in a server?

The module expands the chassis fabric at 25GbE per server-facing link while providing two 100GbE QSFP28-DD uplinks for northbound traffic.

What interface do the two uplinks use and what speed does each support?

Each uplink uses a QSFP28-DD interface and operates at 100GbE.
