Dell PV MD3000 488W Power Supply

This 488 watt unit is built for the Dell PowerVault MD3000 storage array. It fits the MX838 chassis slot and delivers the rated output for that platform. The component ships new and has been tested with updated firmware. It is not suited for servers or enclosures outside the MD3000 family.

Thermals noise and power draw

The supply operates within the thermal design of the MD3000 rack system. Fan speed and acoustic output follow the array's integrated cooling curve. Power draw at the wall matches the 488 watt rating under typical storage workloads. No independent thermal or noise measurements are provided.

Questions about this item

How is the MX838 488W power supply installed in a Dell PV MD3000, and what step is often missed?

Slide the MX838 unit into the rear bay until the latch clicks, then tighten the captive retention screw; the step often missed is securing that screw, which locks the hot-plug connector.

What maintenance or replacement will the MX838 488W power supply need later?

The internal cooling fan is the only wear item; replace the entire MX838 module if the fan becomes noisy or if the unit fails its self-test during POST.
