Dell Mx843 PCIe riser for PowerEdge R710

The Dell Mx843 is a PCIe riser card designed for the PowerEdge R710 server. It provides additional expansion slots within the 1U chassis. This new component is intended for administrators upgrading or repairing that specific platform. It is not for builders working on other server models or desktop systems.

Thermals, noise and power draw

The riser is a passive circuit board with no active cooling, so it adds no fan noise. Power consumption is limited to signal routing for installed PCIe cards. Thermal load depends entirely on the expansion cards populated in the slots.

Questions about this item

How do I install the Dell Mx843 PCIe riser card into the PowerEdge R710, and what step is often missed?

Power down the server, open the chassis, align the riser with the motherboard slot and the rear bracket, press firmly until seated, then secure the retention screw; the step often missed is fastening that screw before closing the case.

What maintenance or replacement will the Dell Mx843 riser card need during the life of the PowerEdge R710?

The riser is a passive board with no moving parts; it requires no scheduled maintenance and only needs replacement if physical damage occurs or a PCIe slot fails.
