Natural writing feel

The Dell Active Pen PN556W uses Wacom AES technology to deliver 2048 levels of pressure sensitivity for precise inking on compatible touch-screen devices. It connects via Bluetooth 4.0 and runs on a single AAAA battery. The matte black barrel suits daily note-taking, sketching or annotation on supported Latitude, XPS, Venue and Inspiron 2-in-1 models.

Sustained session comfort

The pen maintains consistent tracking during long writing or drawing sessions without drift or lag. Palm rejection prevents accidental marks while the hand rests on the display. Pressure response stays linear across the full 2048 levels so strokes remain predictable from first mark to last.

Simple setup

Pairing is a standard Bluetooth 4.0 handshake with Windows 10; no driver installation is required. The only common issue is forgetting the AAAA battery, which is not included in the box. The pen works exclusively on listed touch-screen models that support active pen input; non-touch or unsupported laptops will not recognise it.

Questions about this item

Does the PN556W stylus generate any heat or noise during all-day use?

The PN556W is a passive stylus with no internal electronics that produce heat or fan noise; it draws negligible power from a single AAAA battery and remains silent during continuous operation.

What must I already own for the PN556W to function?

You need a compatible Dell 2-in-1 with AES touch-screen support — such as the Latitude 5000, 7000 or 9000 series, XPS 12 9250, XPS 9365, Venue 10 Pro 5056, Venue 8 Pro 5855, Latitude 7275, Latitude 11 5175 or 5179, Inspiron 7568 FHD, or Latitude 3189 — running Windows 10.

Will the PN556W work alongside my older Dell Latitude 11 5175 without interference?

Yes, the PN556W is listed as compatible with the Latitude 11 5175; it pairs via Bluetooth 4.0 and provides 2048 pressure levels with palm rejection on that model.
