Dell PN557W Active Pen

The Dell PN557W is a Bluetooth 4.0 stylus designed for compatible Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 devices. It offers 2,048 levels of pressure sensitivity and palm rejection technology for natural writing and drawing. The abyss black pen weighs 0.72 oz and includes three customisable buttons. It ships with a AAAA battery, two 319 batteries, a tether and documentation.

Bluetooth 4.0 wireless limits

The pen connects via Bluetooth 4.0, so the host device must support that specific version for pairing and operation. Wireless range and latency depend on the computer's antenna design and local radio interference. No wired fallback or alternative protocol is provided, so a missing or disabled Bluetooth radio will prevent use entirely.

Check Windows version and pen support

Verify the laptop or tablet runs Windows 8.1 or Windows 10 and explicitly supports active pen input with palm rejection. Confirm the device has Bluetooth 4.0 hardware enabled in BIOS and Device Manager. The package supplies batteries for immediate use, but the host must recognise the pen as an input device before the pressure features become active.
