Half-height blade server with dual 18-core Xeon Gold 6154 CPUs, 16 GB DDR4 and 10 Gb dual-port networking
Installed Memory Size 16GB
SSD (Installed) No
The Dell PowerEdge M640 is a half-height blade server fitted with two Xeon Gold 6154 processors. Each CPU provides 18 cores at 3.0 GHz with a 3.7 GHz turbo frequency. The unit ships with 16 GB of DDR4 registered ECC memory across two modules. It is built for virtualization, private cloud and high-performance computing workloads in space-constrained data centres.
The blade slides into a PowerEdge MX or M1000e enclosure, drawing power, cooling and fabric connectivity from the shared mid-plane. Onboard the S140 controller handles RAID 0, 1, 5 and 10 for up to two 2.5-inch SAS or SATA drives in the supplied caddies. A Broadcom 57810S-K daughter card delivers dual-port 10 Gb Ethernet, while iDRAC9 Enterprise gives full out-of-band management without extra licensing.
The 36 combined cores and 2 TB maximum memory capacity let you consolidate more virtual machines per slot than earlier two-socket blades. The step up is justified when workloads need the 2666 MHz DDR4 bandwidth or the integrated NVMe support on the S140 controller. Buyers who need GPU acceleration or more than two drive bays per node should evaluate full-height alternatives.

Other versions of this model
Two Xeon Gold 6154 processors with 18 cores each cap the blade at 36 total cores, well below the 56-core ceiling the platform allows.
The blade relies on the MX or M1000e chassis fans for cooling; its own Matrox G200 GPU and S140 controller add minimal heat, so sustained noise and power draw depend on the enclosure configuration.
It requires a compatible Dell PowerEdge MX or M1000e chassis that supplies power, cooling, and the 10 Gb dual-port fabric through the installed Broadcom 57810S-K daughter card.
