Half-height blade server with dual 24-core Xeon Platinum 8260 processors, 128GB DDR4, PERC H330 controller and two 1.92TB SATA SSDs
Installed Memory Size 128GB
SSD (Installed) 2 x 1.92TB SATA SSD
The Dell PowerEdge M640 is a half-height blade server built for dense compute environments. It ships with two Intel Xeon Platinum 8260 processors running at 2.4 GHz with a 3.9 GHz turbo frequency. 128 GB of DDR4 2933 MHz registered ECC memory is installed across eight slots. Storage is handled by a PERC H330 controller with two 1.92 TB SATA SSDs configured in RAID 0, 1, 5, 10 or 50.
This blade fits organisations running virtualisation clusters, private clouds or high-performance computing grids that can populate a PowerEdge MX or M1000e chassis. It includes a Broadcom 57810S-K dual-port 10 Gb network daughter card and iDRAC9 Enterprise for remote management. Buyers without a compatible blade enclosure, or who need a tower or rack-mount server with integrated rails and bezel, should look at a different form factor.
The M640 supports a maximum of two processors, so the installed pair of 24-core Xeon Platinum 8260 CPUs already reaches the blade's ceiling. Memory can grow to 1.5 TB using the 16 available DDR4 slots, and the storage controller accepts SATA or SAS drives including NVMe options. If a workload demands more than two sockets per node, this platform cannot satisfy it.

Other versions of this model
Each Xeon Platinum 8260 has a base frequency of 2.4 GHz and a turbo ceiling of 3.9 GHz; under continuous load the processors will settle at their rated TDP before any other component reaches its limit.
The M640 relies on the M1000e or MX chassis fans for cooling; installed CPUs, 128 GB DDR4, H330 controller and two 1.92 TB SSDs all draw power inside the blade, so chassis fan speed and resulting noise scale with total system load.
The blade requires a Dell PowerEdge M1000e or MX series enclosure and uses the factory-installed Broadcom 57810S-K 10 Gb dual-port daughter card for network connectivity.
