Half-width blade server with two 10-core Silver 4210 CPUs, 512 GB DDR4 and six 2.4 TB 10 K SAS drives
The DELL PowerEdge MX740C is a half-width blade server built for dense compute environments. It carries two Intel Silver 4210 processors, each running at 2.2GHz with 10 cores and 14M cache. Memory totals 512GB of DDR4 across 16 modules rated at PC4-2933. Six 2.4TB 10K SAS drives sit behind an H730P MX RAID controller.
This configuration suits virtualisation clusters and database workloads that benefit from high core counts and large memory capacity. The 10/25Gb SFP28 mezzanine card supports high-throughput networking. Buyers who need more drive bays or a different drive interface should look elsewhere. The fixed storage controller and lack of optical drive also limit repurposing.
The single specification that decides fit is the 512GB DDR4 memory capacity. With 16 populated slots at 32GB each, further expansion requires replacing modules. Workloads that demand more memory than this will need a different platform.

Twenty cores running at 2.2 GHz provide a stable base for multi-threaded applications such as virtualisation hosts or database servers, with turbo available when thermal headroom allows.
The card caps network traffic at 25 Gb/s per port over SFP28 optics or direct-attach cables, so east-west cluster links and storage replication cannot exceed that line rate.
The blade uses six 2.5-inch bays, all populated with 2.4 TB 10 K SAS drives, leaving no empty slots for additional internal storage.
