Dual Xeon 10-core 1U rack server

The Dell PowerEdge R430 fits two Intel Xeon E5-2650 v3 processors, each with ten cores at 2.3 GHz, into a single rack unit. Sixteen gigabytes of DDR4 memory are installed across twelve DIMM slots, supporting up to 384 GB total. The Perc H730 controller manages eight hot-plug 2.5-inch SAS or SATA bays with RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60.

Redundant 550 W supply and iDRAC8 remote management

A single hot-swap 550 W power supply provides redundancy in a 1U chassis that weighs 43 lbs and measures 26.7 by 18.99 by 1.68 inches. Four 1 GbE ports handle network traffic while the Matrox G200eR2 graphics chip drives basic video. The iDRAC8 with Lifecycle Controller enables out-of-band monitoring and firmware updates without an operating system.

Two PCIe 3.0 slots and optional upgrades

Two PCIe 3.0 expansion slots allow additional networking or storage controllers. The server ships with a power cable only; rail kit, bezel, drive trays, keyboard, mouse and video cable are not included. iDRAC8 Express is standard, with Enterprise licensing and 8 GB or 16 GB vFlash media available as upgrades. No operating system is pre-installed.

Questions about this item

How do I install the drives into the 8 hot-plug 2.5" bays, and what step is often missed?

Slide each drive into a bay until the lever locks; the step often missed is seating the drive fully so the SAS or SATA connector engages the backplane.

What maintenance or replacement will the 1× 550W redundant power supply need later?

The single 550W supply can be hot-swapped if it fails; add a second matching supply for full redundancy.

What limit appears first under sustained use with the dual E5-2650 v3 CPUs and 16GB DDR4?

Memory capacity caps at 16GB installed, so workloads needing more than 16GB will hit that ceiling before CPU or I/O limits.
