1U rack server with dual redundant supplies

The Dell PowerEdge R430 occupies a single rack unit and ships with two 550 W hot-swap power supplies. A single Intel Xeon E5-2650 v3 provides ten cores at 2.3 GHz with 20 virtual threads. Ninety-six gigabytes of DDR4 memory fill the installed DIMM slots, and the H330 controller manages up to eight 2.5-inch hot-plug SAS or SATA drives.

Sustained load behaviour with H330 RAID

The H330 12 Gbps RAID controller supports levels 0, 1, 5, 10, 50 and 60 for continuous array operation. Dual redundant power supplies maintain uptime if one unit fails during extended workloads. Four 1 GbE ports handle steady network traffic, while the Matrox G200 graphics chip provides basic video output without taxing the CPU. Two PCIe 3.0 slots remain available for additional I/O cards.

Compatibility checks before ordering

Verify that your rack can accept a 1U chassis measuring 26.7 by 18.99 by 1.68 inches and weighing 43 lbs. The system ships without drive trays, an operating system, rail kit, bezel or input peripherals. Maximum memory capacity is 384 GB across twelve DDR4 slots, so plan upgrades within that limit. A second processor can be added to reach the two-socket maximum.

Questions about this item

How loud and hot does the R430 get with dual 550W redundant supplies running 24/7?

Dual 550W hot-swap supplies share the load, so each unit runs cooler and fan speeds stay lower than a single-supply design under continuous operation.

Which drive trays and rails must I source before the 8-bay chassis will accept my 2.5" SAS or SATA disks?

The server ships without trays, bezel or rail kit; you need Dell 2.5" hot-plug trays and a compatible R430 rail kit to populate the eight bays.

Will my existing PCIe 2.0 x8 HBA work in the two PCIe 3.0 slots without slowing the H330 RAID controller?

Both slots are PCIe 3.0; a PCIe 2.0 card will negotiate at 2.0 speeds while the H330 retains full 3.0 bandwidth on the other slot.
