A compact 1U rack server with dual Xeon Gold 6130 16-core processors, 256GB DDR4 ECC memory, H730P RAID controller and eight 1.8TB SAS drives
The Dell PowerEdge R440 is a 1U rack server built for dense data-centre deployment. It ships with two Intel Xeon Gold 6130 processors running at 2.1 GHz with a 3.7 GHz turbo, each providing 16 cores for a total of 32 threads. The system includes 256 GB of DDR4-2666 ECC registered memory across eight 32 GB modules. A PERC H730P controller with 2 GB cache manages the eight 1.8 TB 10K SAS drives in the 2.5-inch bays. Dual 550 W platinum power supplies and iDRAC9 Express complete the package.
This server suits teams running virtualisation clusters, application hosting or database workloads that benefit from 32 cores in a single rack unit. The eight drive bays and H730P controller support RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60, giving flexibility for capacity or redundancy. Buyers who need more than eight drives or require front bezel and ready rails should look elsewhere, as those items are not included. Workloads that exceed the installed 256 GB memory capacity will need additional DIMMs or a different platform.
The storage subsystem centres on eight 1.8 TB 10K SAS hard drives connected to a Dell PERC H730P RAID controller with battery-backed cache. This combination determines both raw capacity and the RAID levels available for data protection. The controller operates at 12 Gb/s and supports SAS and SATA devices in pass-through mode as well. Verify that the drive count, capacity and RAID feature set match your workload before purchasing.

New to this? Buying server hardware with crypto — what to check, what it costs to pay, and what is never asked for.
No published specifications for this item yet.
The server uses eight 2.5-inch bays and the PERC H730P controller supports 12Gb/s SAS and SATA, so existing 2.5-inch SAS drives can be installed and recognised.
Open the iDRAC9 Express web interface, go to Storage > Controller > Battery, and verify the status shows OK with a full charge indicator.
You will need a 1U sliding rail kit compatible with the R440, a front bezel if you want one, and an OS licence; drives, CPUs, memory, controller and dual 550W PSUs are already fitted.
