Compact 1U rack server for dense data-centre

The Dell PowerEdge R440 is a 1U rackmount server built for business, virtualization, cloud and storage workloads. It fits space-constrained racks while delivering enterprise-class processing and flexible storage options for growing IT infrastructure.

Suited for virtualization hosts

Organisations running virtualised workloads, databases or cloud services will benefit from the dual-processor design and eight drive bays. Buyers who need GPU acceleration, larger memory footprints or higher core counts per socket should evaluate alternative configurations.

Sustained load behaviour

Two hot-plug 550 W platinum-efficiency power supplies provide redundancy for continuous operation. The PERC H730P controller with 2 GB cache and battery backup maintains RAID performance during extended write-heavy workloads, while iDRAC 9 Express enables remote monitoring of thermal and power metrics under load.

Questions about this item

What rack kit is required to mount this 1U PowerEdge R440 in a standard cabinet?

The server ships without rails or a front bezel, so a compatible Dell ReadyRails kit must be purchased separately for rack installation.

Can the PERC H730P controller manage the eight 1.92 TB SATA SSDs together with older SAS drives?

Yes, the H730P supports mixed SAS and SATA drives across RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 arrays.

How do I confirm both Xeon Gold 5118 CPUs and all 16 GB of DDR4-2400 memory are detected after power-on?

Check the iDRAC9 Express System Inventory or the POST screen; both should list two 12-core processors at 2.3 GHz and 16 GB total memory.
