Silver 1U rack server front with eight 2.5-inch drive bay fillers

DELL

DELL PowerEdge R440 1U rack server 2x Xeon Gold 5118 2.3GHz 12-core 128GB DDR4 H730P 8x 2.5" fillers

SKU CH-T47R-5RDPB

1U rack server with dual 12-core Xeon Gold 5118 CPUs at 2.3GHz, 128GB DDR4, H730P RAID controller, and eight 2.5-inch drive bays

  • Dual Xeon Gold 5118 processors deliver 24 cores at 2.3 GHz base clock
  • 128 GB DDR4-2400 ECC registered memory ensures reliable virtualization performance
  • PERC H730P controller supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50, 60 with 2 GB cache
  • iDRAC 9 Express enables remote monitoring and administration from anywhere
  • Dual 550 W platinum power supplies provide redundant power for continuous operation

Dense 1U rack server for virtualised workloads

The Dell PowerEdge R440 fits a full dual-socket configuration into a single rack unit, targeting data-centre racks where space is at a premium. Two Intel Xeon Gold 5118 processors provide 24 cores at 2.3GHz with 3.2GHz turbo, while 128GB of DDR4-2400 ECC registered memory supports dense virtualisation and database tiers. The PERC H730P controller with 2GB cache manages up to eight 2.5-inch SAS or SATA bays, currently populated with fillers.

Sustained throughput with dual 550W platinum

Redundant 550 watt platinum-efficiency power supplies keep both CPUs and the storage controller fed during continuous load without throttling. The H730P battery-backed cache protects in-flight writes across RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 during extended rebuilds or heavy write streams. iDRAC 9 Express provides out-of-band health telemetry so administrators can track thermals and power draw over weeks of production runtime rather than minutes of benchmarking.

Replaces older 2U boxes when rack density becomes

Organisations consolidating multiple legacy 2U servers into a single 1U node gain the jump when they need more cores per rack unit and can populate the eight drive bays with their own SAS or SATA media. The step is less suited for buyers who need GPU acceleration, additional PCIe slots beyond the standard complement, or front bezel and ready rails included in the shipment.

Questions about this item

How much heat and power do the two 550 Watt PSUs and dual 12-core Xeon Gold 5118 CPUs generate when the R440 runs all day?

The server includes two 550 Watt Platinum efficiency power supplies and dual Xeon Gold 5118 processors with a 2.3 GHz base and 3.2 GHz turbo frequency. Power draw and thermal output scale with workload intensity across the 1U chassis.

Which drives and caddies must I supply to populate the eight 2.5-inch bays that currently hold only fillers?

The eight 2.5-inch bays are shipped with Dell EMC 14G drive bay fillers. You must provide compatible 2.5-inch SAS or SATA drives and the matching Dell caddies for the PERC H730P controller to recognise them.

Will my existing DDR4-2400 ECC RDIMMs and PERC H730P RAID arrays work unchanged in this R440?

The system ships with 128 GB of DDR4-2400 ECC Registered memory in eight 16 GB modules and a PERC H730P with 2 GB cache. Matching DDR4-2400 ECC RDIMMs and existing H730P virtual disks are compatible.
