1U rack server with dual 12-core Xeon Gold 5118 CPUs, 128 GB DDR4 ECC, H730P RAID controller, eight 600 GB SAS drives and dual 550 W PSUs
The Dell EMC PowerEdge R440 is a 1U rackmount server built for space-efficient data centre environments. It ships with two Intel Xeon Gold 5118 processors running at 2.3 GHz with 12 cores each, plus 128 GB of DDR4-2400 ECC registered memory. A PERC H730P controller with 2 GB cache manages eight 600 GB 10K SAS drives in the front 2.5-inch bays. Dual 550 W platinum power supplies and iDRAC 9 Express remote management complete the configuration.
This configuration targets organisations running virtualisation, database or cloud workloads that benefit from dual-socket performance and hardware RAID flexibility. The eight SAS drive bays and H730P controller support RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 for local redundancy. Buyers who need more than eight drive bays, PCIe add-in cards beyond the integrated dual-port gigabit Ethernet, or front bezel and rail kits included should evaluate alternative platforms.
The storage subsystem centres on eight enterprise 600 GB 10K SAS drives connected to the PERC H730P 12 Gb/s controller with battery-backed cache. This combination determines usable capacity, I/O performance and the RAID levels available for the operating system and data volumes. Verify that the drive count, spindle speed and RAID feature set match the application requirements before deployment.

The server occupies a single 1U slot in a standard rack cabinet.
Install both processors first, then populate the eight memory slots evenly across the two CPU memory channels.
The controller battery and the mechanical hard drives are the parts most likely to require replacement during the server's service life.
