Dell PowerEdge R440 1U server

The Dell PowerEdge R440 is a 1U rackmount server built for dense data-centre deployment. Dual Intel Xeon Gold 5118 processors provide 24 cores at 2.3 GHz with 3.2 GHz turbo. 512 GB of DDR4-2400 ECC registered memory supports virtualization, cloud and database workloads. Eight 960 GB SATA SSDs and a PERC H330 controller deliver high-capacity flash storage.

Suitable for dense virtualization

This configuration suits organisations running memory-intensive virtual machines, container clusters or database instances that benefit from 512 GB RAM and eight SATA SSDs. The 1U form factor fits tight rack rows. Buyers who need GPU acceleration, higher single-thread frequency, or included mounting rails should evaluate other platforms.

PERC H330 12 Gb/s SAS/SATA controller

The PERC H330 12 Gb/s SAS/SATA storage controller manages the eight 960 GB SATA 6 Gb/s 2.5-inch enterprise SSDs. It provides hardware RAID for the internal drive bays and determines which drive types and RAID levels are supported. Confirm that this controller matches your storage redundancy and performance requirements before purchase.

Questions about this item

Will the dual Xeon Gold 5118 CPUs throttle under sustained full-core load?

Each Xeon Gold 5118 runs at 2.3GHz base with 3.2GHz turbo across 12 cores; the 1U chassis and dual 550W platinum supplies are designed to maintain those clocks during continuous workloads.

How loud and hot does the server get when running 24/7?

The 1U form factor uses high-speed fans to cool two 12-core CPUs, 512GB DDR4-2400 memory, and eight 2.5-inch SSDs; expect noticeable fan noise and warm exhaust air in a closed rack.

What rack hardware is needed before this server can be mounted?

Ready Rails are not included, so you must supply compatible sliding rails for a 1U rackmount server.
