DELL

DELL PowerEdge R440 1U rack server 2x Xeon Gold 5118 2.3GHz 12-core 256GB DDR4 8x 600GB SAS HBA330 2x 550W PSU

SKU CH-NVB2-1GV7W

1U rack server with two 12-core Xeon Gold 5118 processors at 2.3 GHz, 256 GB DDR4 ECC memory, eight 600 GB 10K SAS drives on an HBA330 controller, dual gigabit Ethernet.

  • Dual Xeon Gold 5118 CPUs deliver 24 cores at 2.3 GHz base clock
  • 256 GB DDR4-2400 ECC memory ensures reliable data integrity for workloads
  • Eight 600 GB 10K SAS drives provide high-speed storage capacity
  • HBA330 12Gb/s controller manages SAS and SATA drives efficiently
  • Dual 550 W platinum power supplies maintain continuous operation

Compact 1U rack server for dense data centres

The Dell PowerEdge R440 fits a full dual-socket server into a single rack unit, making it suited to organisations that need maximum compute density. Two Intel Xeon Gold 5118 processors provide 24 cores at a base 2.3 GHz with 3.2 GHz turbo capability. 256 GB of DDR4-2400 ECC registered memory supports reliable operation for virtualization, cloud and database workloads.

Sustained load behaviour

Under continuous demand the twin 12-core Xeon CPUs maintain throughput across all 24 threads while the registered DDR4 ECC DIMMs correct single-bit errors without interrupting service. The PERC HBA330 controller manages eight 600 GB 10K SAS drives through a 12 Gb/s SAS backplane, delivering steady I/O for mixed read-write patterns. Redundant 550 W platinum power supplies share the load so that a single supply failure does not reduce available power.

Eight-bay 2.5-inch SAS storage capacity

The chassis accepts eight 2.5-inch drives and this unit ships with eight enterprise 600 GB 10K SAS disks already installed. The HBA330 presents these drives to the operating system in JBOD or pass-through mode without hardware RAID abstraction. Buyers who need hardware RAID levels or larger drive counts should verify controller options before purchase.

Questions about this item

How much heat and power do the two 550W Platinum PSUs and 2.3GHz 12-core Xeons produce under sustained load?

The server ships with dual 550 Watt Platinum efficiency power supplies and two 12-core Xeon Gold 5118 processors running at 2.3GHz with 3.2GHz turbo, designed for continuous operation in dense 1U racks.

Which rails and front bezel do I need to mount this 1U chassis in a standard rack?

The listing notes that front bezel and ready rails are not included, so you must supply compatible sliding rails and a 1U bezel for your rack.

Will my existing 12Gb/s SAS drives and DDR4-2400 ECC modules work with the HBA330 controller and 256GB memory configuration?

The PERC HBA330 supports 12Gb/s SAS and SATA drives, and the system uses 8x 32GB DDR4-2400 ECC registered DIMMs, matching standard enterprise SAS and DDR4 specifications.
