Silver 1U rack server front with four 3.5 inch drive bays

DELL

DELL PowerEdge R440 1U rack server 2x Xeon Gold 5118 2.3GHz 12-core 32GB DDR4

SKU CH-AB3A-36PQD

A compact 1U rack server with dual Xeon Gold 5118 12-core processors, 32GB DDR4 ECC memory, HBA330 storage controller, four 3.5-inch drive bays and dual 550W platinum power supplies

  • Dual 12-core Xeon Gold 5118 CPUs deliver 24 threads at 2.3 GHz base and 3.2 GHz turbo
  • 32 GB DDR4-2400 ECC memory provides error-correcting capacity for virtualization workloads
  • PERC HBA330 12 Gb/s controller supports SAS and SATA drives in four 3.5-inch bays
  • iDRAC 9 Express enables remote monitoring and administration without a separate KVM
  • Redundant 550 W platinum power supplies maintain uptime if one unit fails

Compact 1U server for dense rack workloads

The Dell EMC PowerEdge R440 fits a full dual-processor platform into a single rack unit, making it a practical choice for data centres and businesses that need compute density without expanding cabinet space. It targets virtualization, cloud and storage tasks where rack slots are at a premium.

Front-access drive bays with HBA330 controller

Four 3.5-inch bays accept SAS or SATA drives behind the supplied fillers, while the PERC HBA330 12Gb/s controller handles storage connectivity without a RAID overhead. Dual 550 watt platinum supplies and integrated dual-port gigabit Ethernet give redundant power and baseline networking in the same chassis depth.

Dual 12-core Xeon Gold 5118 CPUs replace

Stepping up from a single processor to two 2.3 GHz 12-core chips doubles thread count for heavily threaded applications and virtualization hosts. The 32 GB DDR4-2400 ECC foundation supports that uplift, and the jump is worth it when workloads outgrow a single-socket memory or core ceiling.

Questions about this item

What storage interface does the PERC HBA330 controller support and what is its maximum throughput?

The PERC HBA330 is a 12Gb/s SAS and SATA storage controller that handles both drive types at that link speed.

What physical items are missing from the chassis that are normally required for rack mounting?

The front bezel and Ready Rails are not included, so you must provide your own sliding rail kit and a compatible bezel if desired.

How are the two 550 Watt power supplies installed and what mistake should be avoided?

Both PSUs slide into the rear bays and lock with their integrated levers; the common error is leaving one bay empty, which removes redundancy and may trigger fan-speed alerts.
