Dell PowerEdge R440 1U rack server front view with eight 2.5 inch drive bays

DELL

DELL PowerEdge R440 1U rack server 2x Xeon Gold 5118 2.3GHz 12C 512GB DDR4 8x 960GB SSD HBA330 2x 550W PSU

SKU CH-GSEW-K7XWK

A 1U rack server with dual 12-core Xeon processors at 2.3 GHz, 512 GB DDR4, eight 960 GB SATA SSDs and redundant 550 W power supplies

  • Dual Xeon Gold 5118 processors deliver 24 cores at 2.3 GHz base clock
  • 512 GB DDR4-2400 ECC registered memory ensures reliable virtualization performance
  • Eight 960 GB SATA SSDs provide high-capacity flash storage in 2.5" bays
  • PERC HBA330 12 Gb/s controller manages SAS and SATA drives
  • Dual 550 W platinum power supplies with iDRAC9 Express remote management

Dense compute in 1U

The Dell PowerEdge R440 is a 1U rack server built for virtualization, database and cloud workloads that demand high core counts in minimal rack space. It suits IT teams consolidating multiple applications onto a single dense platform.

Enterprise storage controller and redundant power

A PERC HBA330 12Gb/s SAS/SATA controller manages eight 960 GB enterprise SSDs in 2.5-inch bays for fast, reliable data access. Dual 550 W platinum power supplies and iDRAC 9 Express remote management keep the system running and monitorable without physical access.

Replaces sprawling 2U fleets for lighter workloads

Organizations running older multi-socket 2U servers can collapse them into this dual 12-core Xeon Gold 5118 system with 512 GB DDR4-2400 ECC memory. The jump makes sense when rack density and power efficiency matter more than maximum PCIe expansion slots.

Questions about this item

What is the maximum throughput of the SAS controller and which drives does it limit?

The PERC HBA330 controller runs at 12Gb/s SAS and SATA, so the eight 960GB SSDs are capped at SATA 6Gb/s speeds.

Which rail kit and front bezel are required for a standard 1U rack?

The server ships without ready rails or a front bezel; you must supply a compatible 1U rail kit and bezel separately.

How are the CPUs and memory installed, and which step is often missed?

Two Xeon Gold 5118 processors and sixteen 32GB DDR4-2400 ECC DIMMs are pre-installed; the common oversight is not enabling the correct memory channel population in BIOS after adding modules.
