Compact 1U Rack Server for Dense Deployments

The Dell PowerEdge R440 is a 1U rack server built for business, data centre, virtualisation, cloud and storage workloads. Two Intel Xeon Gold 6130 processors run at 2.1GHz with a 3.7GHz turbo and 16 cores each. The system ships with 128GB of DDR4-2666 ECC registered memory and a PERC H730P controller with 2GB cache.

Suits Virtualisation Hosts and Storage Nodes

Organisations needing high core counts and large drive bays in a single rack unit will fit this server into dense rows. Buyers who require more than four 3.5-inch drive bays or additional PCIe slots for extra network or accelerator cards should evaluate larger chassis options.

Four 8TB Enterprise Hard Drives Included

Four Dell Enterprise 8TB 7.2K SATA 6Gb/s 3.5-inch hard drives are installed, providing raw capacity for RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 or 60 arrays managed by the H730P. The dual 550W platinum power supplies and iDRAC9 Express remote management complete the configuration.

Questions about this item

Does the 1U chassis include mounting rails for a standard rack?

Front bezel and ready rails are not included with this server.

How are the Xeon Gold 6130 processors and DDR4 memory installed, and what step is often missed?

Both CPUs and the eight 16 GB DDR4-2666 modules must be seated before the PERC H730P controller initialises; skipping the memory population order causes a POST halt.

What component of the PERC H730P will need replacement during the server's service life?

The 2 GB RAID controller battery backs the write cache and typically requires replacement after several years of continuous operation.
