Compact 1U rack server for dense deployments

The Dell PowerEdge R440 is a 1U rackmount system built for space-efficient data centre racks. It carries two Intel Xeon Gold 6130 processors running at 2.1GHz with a 3.7GHz turbo frequency and 16 cores each. The platform includes 128GB of DDR4-2666 ECC registered memory across eight 16GB modules. This configuration targets virtualization, cloud and storage workloads that demand high density.

Thermal design with dual platinum power supplies

Two 550W platinum-efficiency power supplies provide redundant power delivery for continuous operation. The 1U chassis routes airflow front-to-rear across the processors, memory and eight drive bays to maintain thermal stability under load. Redundant cooling modules and the efficient power design help keep acoustic output controlled in standard rack aisles. iDRAC 9 Express monitors temperatures and power draw remotely.

H330 controller and eight SATA SSDs included

The PERC H330 12Gb/s SAS/SATA controller manages the eight 960GB 2.5-inch solid state drives supplied with the server. This hardware RAID adapter enables array creation and drive management without consuming a PCIe slot. iDRAC 9 Express adds out-of-band remote management for firmware updates, power control and health alerts. The front bezel and ready rails are not included with this unit.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 2.5" SSDs into the 8-bay front chassis and which step is commonly missed?

Slide each 960GB SATA drive into a front bay until the carrier clicks; the step often missed is seating the carrier latch fully so the PERC H330 detects all eight drives.

Which components will need replacement first during long-term operation?

The two 550W Platinum power supplies and the system fans are the field-replaceable units that typically reach end of life before the Xeon Gold 6130 CPUs or DDR4-2666 memory.

What thermal or power limit appears first when the server runs sustained 16-core workloads?

The dual 550W PSU budget and 1U airflow path constrain sustained turbo at 3.7GHz; the system will throttle to base 2.1GHz once the thermal envelope is reached.
