Compact 1U rack server for dense deployments

The Dell PowerEdge R440 is a 1U rackmount system built for space-efficient data centre deployment. Dual Intel Xeon Gold 6130 processors at 2.1 GHz with 3.7 GHz turbo provide 16 cores per socket for enterprise workloads. It targets organisations running virtualisation, cloud or storage tasks in tight rack space.

Dual CPUs, ECC memory and SAS controller included

The server arrives with two Xeon Gold 6130 CPUs and 64 GB of DDR4-2666 ECC registered memory already installed. A PERC H330 12 Gb/s SAS/SATA controller manages the four drive bays. Two 550 W platinum power supplies provide redundancy, while dual 1 GbE ports and iDRAC 9 Express handle connectivity and remote management.

Four 3.5-inch enterprise drives

Four Dell 4 TB 7.2K SATA 3.5-inch hard drives ship installed for immediate storage capacity. The front bezel and Ready Rails are not supplied, so the buyer must source mounting hardware separately. PCIe expansion slots remain available for additional networking or storage controllers.

Questions about this item

What storage bottleneck appears first when the four 7.2K RPM SATA drives are written continuously?

The 7.2K RPM SATA drives will saturate their sequential write bandwidth long before the H330 controller or SAS backplane reach their limits.

How loud and hot does the R440 get with both 550 W Platinum PSUs and dual 6130 CPUs loaded all day?

Dual 550 W Platinum supplies and two 16-core 6130s at full load push the 1U chassis fans to high RPM, producing noticeable airflow noise and exhaust heat in a closed rack.

Which rack-mount hardware must I already have because the R440 ships without front bezel or Ready Rails?

You need your own 1U square-hole or threaded-hole rack rails and a front bezel if you want the standard Dell latch and dust cover.
