Dell PowerEdge R440 1U rack server front view with four 3.5 inch drive bays

DELL

DELL PowerEdge R440 1U rack server 2x Xeon Gold 6130 2.1GHz 16 Core 128GB DDR4 4x 8TB HDD HBA330 2x 550W

SKU CH-KWM0-SSYTP

1U rack server with two 16-core Xeon Gold 6130 CPUs, 128GB DDR4 ECC, HBA330 controller and four 8TB 7.2K SATA drives

  • Two Xeon Gold 6130 processors provide 16 cores each at 2.1 GHz base
  • 128 GB DDR4-2666 ECC registered memory supports reliable workload operation
  • PERC HBA330 12 Gb/s controller manages SAS and SATA drives
  • Four 8 TB 7.2K SATA hard drives deliver high-capacity storage
  • Dual 550 W platinum power supplies with iDRAC9 Express remote management

Compact 1U rack server for dense deployments

The Dell PowerEdge R440 fits a full dual-socket platform into a single rack unit, targeting organisations that need high compute density for virtualization, cloud or database workloads. Two Xeon Gold 6130 processors provide 16 cores each at 2.1 GHz with 3.7 GHz turbo capability, while 128 GB of DDR4-2666 ECC registered memory supports reliable operation across many concurrent virtual machines. The HBA330 controller manages four 3.5-inch drive bays populated with 8 TB enterprise SATA drives spinning at 7.2K rpm.

Dual 550 W platinum supplies and front airflow

Redundant 550 watt platinum-efficiency power supplies share the load and maintain uptime if one unit fails. Front-to-rear airflow across the 1U chassis keeps both CPU sockets and the four 3.5-inch drives within thermal limits during sustained workloads. Fan speeds scale with inlet temperature so acoustic output remains proportional to actual cooling demand rather than running at a fixed high rate.

iDRAC 9 Express and HBA330 simplify administration

Integrated iDRAC 9 Express delivers out-of-band remote management for power control, hardware inventory and firmware updates without requiring an operating system. The PERC HBA330 presents the four 8 TB drives to the OS in JBOD or pass-through mode, letting administrators choose software RAID, ZFS or other volume managers instead of a hardware RAID layer. Front bezel and ready rails are not included, so rack mounting hardware must be sourced separately.

Questions about this item

How do I install the four 8TB 3.5" drives into the front bays?

Slide each drive into a front bay until the latch clicks; the HBA330 controller will detect the SATA 6Gb/s disks on the next POST.

What components will need replacement first under continuous operation?

The four 7.2K SATA hard drives are the primary wear items; the dual 550W platinum power supplies and system fans are the other field-replaceable units.

What limit appears first when the server runs sustained all-core workloads?

The 550W power supply rating caps total draw, so sustained turbo on both 16-core Xeon Gold 6130 processors will hit that ceiling before thermal limits.
