Dell PowerEdge R440 1U Server

The Dell PowerEdge R440 is a 1U rackmount server built for dense data centre deployment. Two Intel Xeon Gold 6130 processors deliver 32 total cores at 2.1GHz with 3.7GHz turbo for demanding compute workloads. 256GB of DDR4-2666 ECC registered memory supports reliable virtualisation and database operations. Eight 1.92TB SATA SSDs provide high-density flash storage managed by a PERC HBA330 controller.

Ideal for virtualisation hosts and storage clusters

This configuration suits organisations running VMware, Hyper-V or container platforms that need maximum drive bays in a single rack unit. The eight 2.5-inch bays filled with enterprise SSDs create a ready-to-deploy storage node. Buyers who require PCIe add-in cards for GPU acceleration or high-speed networking should look elsewhere because the 1U chassis limits expansion slots.

PERC HBA330 12Gb/s SAS/SATA controller

The HBA330 presents drives directly to the operating system without hardware RAID abstraction, making it the correct choice for software-defined storage stacks such as CEPH or ZFS. Administrators wanting a traditional RAID card with cache and battery backup will need a different controller. Dual 550W platinum power supplies and iDRAC9 Express remote management complete the platform.

Questions about this item

Should I pick the 256 GB DDR4-2666 configuration or look for a different memory capacity?

This unit ships with 256 GB of DDR4-2666 ECC registered DIMMs arranged as eight 32 GB modules, filling all available slots for maximum throughput.

What does the 2.1 GHz base clock with 3.7 GHz turbo mean for actual workloads?

The two Xeon Gold 6130 processors run at 2.1 GHz base and can boost to 3.7 GHz, giving 16 cores per CPU for heavy virtualization or database tasks.

How fast can the PERC HBA330 controller move data to the 1.92 TB SSDs?

The HBA330 provides 12 Gb/s SAS/SATA connectivity, so each 1.92 TB SATA SSD is limited by the SATA 6 Gb/s link rather than the controller.
