Dual Xeon Gold 6130 1U server

The Dell PowerEdge R440 is a 1U rack server equipped with two Intel Xeon Gold 6130 processors. Each processor provides 16 cores running at a base frequency of 2.1GHz. The system includes 64GB of DDR4-2666 ECC registered memory across four modules. Eight 1.92TB SATA solid-state drives connect through a PERC HBA330 controller. Dual 550W platinum power supplies deliver redundant power for continuous operation.

Sustained load behaviour

Under sustained workloads the Xeon Gold 6130 processors can reach a maximum turbo frequency of 3.7GHz when thermal headroom allows. The 1U chassis relies on internal airflow to cool both processors, memory modules and the eight drive bays simultaneously. Platinum-efficiency power supplies reduce waste heat during extended operation. iDRAC 9 Express provides remote thermal monitoring and alerting without requiring physical access to the rack.

SATA interface limits

The eight 2.5-inch drives use the SATA 6Gb/s interface which caps sequential throughput at the bus maximum. The PERC HBA330 controller supports 12Gb/s SAS and SATA links but each attached SATA drive remains limited to its native 6Gb/s link speed. Integrated dual-port Gigabit Ethernet provides network connectivity at 1GbE line rate. PCIe expansion slots are available for additional networking or storage controllers if higher throughput is required.

Questions about this item

How much heat and power do the dual 550 W platinum supplies draw when this R440 runs at full load all day?

The server ships with two 550 W platinum-efficiency power supplies that share the load; each unit can deliver up to 550 W, so combined capacity is 1.1 kW under sustained operation.

Which rails and front bezel do I need to supply myself to mount this 1U chassis in a standard rack?

The listing notes that front bezel and ready rails are not included, so you must provide your own compatible sliding rails and a 1U front bezel for rack installation.

Will the PERC HBA330 controller and 12 Gb/s SAS backplane work with the older 6 Gb/s SATA SSDs I already own?

Yes, the HBA330 supports 12 Gb/s SAS and 6 Gb/s SATA, so your existing 6 Gb/s SATA drives will operate at their native speed on the 2.5" drive bays.
