Dense 1U rack server with dual 10-core Xeon Silver 4114 CPUs, 32 GB DDR4 ECC, H730P RAID controller and redundant 550 W power supplies
The Dell PowerEdge R440 is a 1U rack server built for dense data-centre deployments. It runs two Intel Xeon Silver 4114 processors, each with 10 cores at 2.2 GHz and a 3.0 GHz turbo frequency. The system ships with 32 GB of DDR4-2400 ECC registered memory across four modules. This configuration targets virtualization, application hosting, database tasks and cloud infrastructure in space-constrained racks.
A Dell PERC H730P storage controller with 2 GB cache provides 12 Gb/s SAS and SATA connectivity. It supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 plus pass-through mode for direct drive access. The eight 2.5-inch drive bays are populated with fillers, so drives must be added separately. Integrated iDRAC 9 Express enables remote monitoring and administration without a dedicated console. Dual 1 GbE network ports and redundant 550 W platinum power supplies complete the baseline connectivity and power redundancy.
The 1U form factor demands a rack with sufficient depth for cabling and airflow; confirm clearance before ordering. No drives are included, so select SAS or SATA 2.5-inch media that matches the PERC H730P RAID plan. The front bezel and ready rails are not supplied, so budget for a compatible rail kit if the rack does not already have one. Dual power supplies require two PDU circuits for full redundancy.

The PERC H730P includes a battery-backed cache; typical service life is three to five years before the battery requires replacement to maintain write-back caching.
Sustained 3.0 GHz turbo on all 10 cores per processor will hit the package power limit before the 1 U chassis airflow can dissipate the heat.
In a 1 U form factor the high-RPM fans needed to cool two 10-core Xeons and redundant 550 W supplies produce noticeable datacentre-level noise.
