Compact 1U rack server for dense infrastructure

The Dell PowerEdge R440 is a 1U rackmount server built for space-efficient deployment in business and data-centre environments. Dual Intel Xeon Gold 5118 processors provide 24 cores at 2.3 GHz with 3.2 GHz turbo for demanding workloads. Integrated iDRAC 9 Express enables remote monitoring and administration from any location.

Virtualisation and storage workloads in tight racks

This configuration suits teams running virtualisation, application hosting or database tasks where rack density and redundant power are priorities. Eight drive bays and a PERC H730P controller with battery-backed cache support RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 for flexible data protection. Buyers who need front bezel or ready rails included should look elsewhere.

256 GB DDR4-2400 ECC registered memory

The system ships with eight 32 GB DDR4-2400 ECC registered DIMMs populated across both processors. This capacity determines how many virtual machines or containers can run concurrently without swapping. Memory speed and rank configuration are fixed by the installed modules and cannot be altered without replacing them.

Questions about this item

Should I pick the 256GB DDR4-2400 configuration or look for a different memory size?

The server ships with 256GB made from eight 32GB DDR4-2400 ECC registered modules, filling the available slots for this dual-processor layout.

What does the 2.3GHz Xeon Gold 5118 speed mean once the server is running workloads?

Each of the two 12-core Xeon Gold 5118 processors runs at 2.3GHz base and can boost to 3.2GHz under load, giving 24 total cores for virtualization or database tasks.

How does the PERC H730P controller limit the eight 1.92TB SATA SSDs in practice?

The H730P provides 12Gb/s SAS/SATA connectivity with 2GB cache and battery backup, supporting RAID 0/1/5/6/10/50/60 across all eight 2.5-inch drive bays.
