Purpose-built 1U server for dense rack deployments

The Dell EMC PowerEdge R440 is a 1U rack server designed for business, data centre, virtualisation, cloud and storage workloads. Its compact form factor maximises rack density while delivering enterprise computing performance. The system supports flexible storage with SAS and SATA drive compatibility alongside PCIe expansion options. Integrated iDRAC 9 Express provides remote monitoring and administration capabilities.

Dual 550W Platinum PSUs

Two 550 Watt Platinum efficiency power supplies deliver redundant power for continuous operation. The dual Intel Xeon Gold 6130 processors run at a 2.1 GHz base frequency with 3.7 GHz turbo capability across 16 cores each. 128 GB of DDR4-2666 ECC registered memory operates within the 1U thermal envelope. The HBA330 storage controller manages drive I/O without adding significant heat load.

Sustained virtualization

Under sustained load the twin 16-core Xeon Gold 6130 CPUs maintain throughput for virtualization, application hosting and database tasks. The 128 GB DDR4-2666 ECC capacity supports multiple concurrent virtual machines or large in-memory datasets. Redundant Platinum power supplies and iDRAC remote management enable uninterrupted operation in dense rack environments. Four 3.5-inch drive bay fillers preserve airflow balance when bays are unpopulated.

Questions about this item

How do I install the PERC HBA330 controller and what step is often missed?

The HBA330 fits a PCIe slot inside the 1U chassis; the step often missed is cabling the controller to the 3.5-inch drive backplane before closing the cover.

Which components will need replacement after prolonged operation?

The two 550-watt platinum power supplies and the system fans are the field-replaceable units that typically wear out first.

What thermal limit appears first when the dual Xeon Gold 6130 CPUs run at 3.7 GHz turbo continuously?

The 1U chassis airflow limit is reached before the CPU thermal ceiling, causing the fans to ramp to maximum speed.
