Dell PowerEdge R440 1U Server

The Dell PowerEdge R440 is a 1U rack server built for dense data centre deployments. Two Intel Xeon Gold 6130 processors provide 32 cores at 2.1 GHz with 3.7 GHz turbo. The system includes 256 GB of DDR4-2666 ECC registered memory and a PERC H730P controller with 2 GB cache. Four 8 TB 7.2K SATA drives deliver 32 TB of raw storage.

Suits virtualization hosts and storage clusters

This configuration fits organisations running hypervisors, application hosting or database workloads that benefit from high core counts and large memory capacity. The four 3.5-inch drive bays limit internal expansion to four drives. Buyers who need more than four front drives should consider a different chassis. Dual 550 W platinum power supplies provide redundancy for continuous operation.

PERC H730P RAID controller with battery

The H730P supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 plus pass-through mode. Its 2 GB cache and battery-backed write cache protect data during power loss. This controller determines which RAID levels are available and governs drive performance for the four installed 8 TB SATA drives.

Questions about this item

Should I pick the 256 GB DDR4-2666 memory configuration or add more modules later?

The system ships with 256 GB across eight 32 GB DDR4-2666 ECC registered DIMMs, leaving no empty slots unless you replace modules.

What does the 2.1 GHz base clock on the Xeon Gold 6130 mean for actual workloads?

Each of the two 16-core Xeon Gold 6130 CPUs runs at 2.1 GHz base and can turbo to 3.7 GHz, giving 32 total cores for parallel tasks.

How fast can the PERC H730P controller move data to the four 8 TB SATA drives?

The H730P provides a 12 Gb/s SAS/SATA interface with 2 GB cache; the 7.2 K SATA drives will limit sustained throughput to the SATA 6 Gb/s link speed.
