  • Dual Xeon Gold 6130 CPUs deliver 32 cores at 2.1 GHz with 3.7 GHz turbo
  • 256 GB DDR4-2666 ECC registered memory ensures reliable data integrity for critical workloads
  • Eight 1.8 TB 10K SAS drives provide high-capacity, high-speed storage in a 2.5" form factor
  • PERC HBA330 12 Gb/s controller manages SAS and SATA drives with hardware RAID support
  • Dual 550 W platinum power supplies and iDRAC 9 Express enable efficient remote management

Dense 1U Compute Platform

This new Dell PowerEdge R440 is a 1U rack server built for dense data-center deployments. It ships with two Intel Xeon Gold 6130 processors running at 2.1 GHz with 16 cores each and a 3.7 GHz turbo frequency. The system includes 256 GB of DDR4-2666 ECC registered memory across eight 32 GB modules. Dual 550 W platinum power supplies provide redundant power for continuous operation.

Virtualisation and Storage Targets

The configuration suits organisations running virtualisation clusters, database instances or cloud workloads that benefit from high core counts and large memory capacity. Eight 2.5-inch drive bays are populated with 1.8 TB 10 K SAS disks managed by a PERC HBA330 controller. Buyers who need GPU acceleration or more than eight drive bays should evaluate larger chassis options.

Storage Controller Decides Fit

The PERC HBA330 12 Gb/s SAS/SATA controller presents the eight installed drives to the operating system without hardware RAID abstraction. This makes the server a direct fit for software-defined storage stacks such as CEPH or ZFS that require raw block access. If a hardware RAID layer with cache protection is required, a PERC RAID card must be sourced separately.

Questions about this item

How are the 8x 1.8TB SAS drives installed in the 8-bay 2.5" chassis, and which step is commonly missed?

Mount each drive in its carrier, slide into the front bay until the latch clicks, then configure the PERC HBA330 RAID volume before installing an OS.

What maintenance will the 2x 550W Platinum power supplies need after prolonged use?

The hot-plug PSUs can be replaced individually without downtime; fans and capacitors inside them are the typical wear items.

Which limit appears first when the 2x Xeon Gold 6130 16-core CPUs run sustained workloads?

The 1U chassis airflow caps CPU turbo at 3.7GHz before thermals throttle clocks under continuous full load.
