Dell PowerEdge R440 1U rack server

The Dell PowerEdge R440 is a 1U rack server built for dense data-centre deployments. It ships with two Intel Xeon Gold 6130 processors running at 2.1 GHz with a 3.7 GHz turbo frequency. The system includes 256 GB of DDR4-2666 ECC registered memory and four 8 TB 7.2K SATA hard drives managed by a PERC HBA330 controller. Dual 550 W platinum power supplies provide redundant power.

Suits virtualisation and storage-heavy workloads

This configuration suits organisations running virtualisation, database or cloud workloads that need high core counts and large capacity in a single rack unit. The HBA330 controller presents the drives directly to the operating system without hardware RAID abstraction. Buyers who need hardware RAID acceleration or who must populate more than four 3.5-inch drive bays should look at a different platform.

Four 3.5-inch drive bays with HBA330

The chassis provides exactly four 3.5-inch hot-plug bays wired to the PERC HBA330 12 Gb/s SAS/SATA controller. This layout fixes the maximum number of mechanical drives at four and determines whether the storage topology matches the intended workload.

Front bezel and ready rails are not included with the PowerEdge R440; you must supply compatible sliding rails for a standard 4-post rack.

What storage controller does the system use and how are the drives connected?

The PERC HBA330 12Gb/s SAS/SATA controller manages the four 3.5-inch 8TB 7.2K SATA drives installed in the front bays.

What is the memory configuration and what type of DIMMs are used?

256GB is populated as eight 32GB DDR4-2666 ECC registered DIMMs across the two processor sockets.
