Dual Xeon Gold 6130 1U Server

The Dell PowerEdge R440 is a 1U rack server built for dense data-center deployment. It ships with two Intel Xeon Gold 6130 processors running at 2.1GHz with a 3.7GHz turbo frequency. Each CPU provides 16 cores for a total of 32 cores, supported by 32GB of DDR4-2666 ECC registered memory. The system targets virtualization, cloud, and storage workloads in space-constrained racks.

PERC H730P Storage Upgrade

The integrated PERC H730P controller adds 2GB cache and supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50, and 60 plus pass-through mode. Four 8TB 7.2K SATA 3.5-inch drives are installed in the front bays, delivering 32TB raw capacity. This configuration replaces direct-attached JBOD shelves or older PERC cards that lack 12Gb/s SAS bandwidth and battery-backed write cache. The jump is worth it when workloads demand hardware RAID redundancy and consistent throughput.

iDRAC9 Express Remote Management

iDRAC 9 Express provides out-of-band remote monitoring and administration over the network. Two 550W platinum power supplies deliver redundancy without extra cabling. Installation uses standard 1U rails; the bezel and ready rails are not included, so verify rail kit compatibility with your rack before mounting. Common issues include missing rail kits and forgetting to license iDRAC Enterprise for advanced features like virtual console.

Questions about this item

How many 3.5-inch drive bays does the R440 chassis provide?

The 1U chassis holds four 3.5-inch hot-plug bays, all occupied by the 8 TB drives.

Which rail kit is required to mount this 1U server in a standard rack?

Dell Ready Rails are needed; they are not included with the unit and must be sourced separately.

What component backs the PERC H730P controller cache and when should it be replaced?

A lithium-ion battery backs the 2 GB cache; plan to replace it every three to five years or if iDRAC reports a fault.
