Compact 1U Rack Server for Dense Deployments

This Dell EMC PowerEdge R440 is a 1U rack server built for business, data centre, virtualization, cloud and storage workloads. It ships with dual Intel Xeon Gold 6130 processors running at 2.1 GHz with 3.7 GHz turbo, each providing 16 cores. The system includes 32 GB of DDR4-2666 ECC registered memory across four 8 GB modules.

Suited for Virtualization and Storage Workloads

This configuration suits IT teams that need a space-efficient server for virtualization, application hosting or database workloads. Buyers who require front bezel or ready rails included should look elsewhere, as neither is supplied. Organisations needing more than four 3.5-inch drive bays or a higher memory capacity from the outset will need a different chassis or additional modules.

PERC H730P RAID Controller with Battery

The Dell PERC H730P storage controller provides 2 GB cache and a battery-backed write cache supporting RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 plus pass-through. It operates at 12 Gb/s over SAS and SATA links. This controller choice determines the RAID levels and drive protocols available for the four 3.5-inch bays currently populated with fillers.

Questions about this item

How loud and hot does the R440 get with dual Xeon Gold 6130 CPUs and 2x 550W PSUs running continuously?

The 1U chassis uses high-speed fans to cool two 16-core Xeon Gold 6130 processors and dual 550W platinum power supplies; expect noticeable airflow noise and warm exhaust under sustained load.

What drives and rails must I supply to populate the four 3.5-inch bays on this R440?

The server ships with four 3.5-inch bay fillers only; you must provide SAS or SATA drives compatible with the PERC H730P controller and your own rack rails for mounting.

Will the H730P controller and iDRAC9 Express manage older SAS drives and legacy console access on this R440?

The PERC H730P supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50, 60 and pass-through for legacy SAS/SATA drives, while iDRAC9 Express provides remote KVM and virtual media for older management workflows.
