Dense 1U Server for Rack Environments

The Dell PowerEdge R440 is a 1U rackmount server built for data centre density. It ships with two Intel Xeon Silver 4114 processors running at 2.2GHz with 3.0GHz turbo. The system includes 128GB of DDR4-2400 ECC registered memory across eight 16GB modules and a PERC HBA330 storage controller.

Suited for Virtualisation and Storage Workloads

This configuration targets organisations running virtualisation, cloud or database tasks that benefit from high core counts and fast local storage. Buyers needing larger drive bays, GPU acceleration or integrated 10GbE networking should evaluate other platforms.

Eight 960GB SATA SSDs in 2.5-Inch Bays

The chassis provides eight 2.5-inch drive bays populated with 960GB SATA 6Gb/s solid state drives. This all-flash array delivers substantial capacity and low latency for read-intensive applications without requiring separate drive purchases.

Questions about this item

What rack-mount hardware do I need to install this 1U server?

The R440 is a 1U rackmount server; rails and a front bezel are not included, so you must supply compatible rack rails.

Can the HBA330 controller manage my existing SAS or SATA drives alongside the 960GB SSDs?

Yes, the PERC HBA330 12Gb/s SAS/SATA controller supports both drive types, so older SAS or SATA drives can be added to the remaining bays.

How do I verify the two Xeon Silver 4114 CPUs and 128GB DDR4 are recognised after first boot?

Open the iDRAC9 Express web interface or enter the BIOS; both will show two 10-core Xeon Silver 4114 processors at 2.2GHz and 128GB of DDR4-2400 ECC memory.
