Dell PowerEdge R540 2U Rack Server

The Dell PowerEdge R540 is a 2U rack server designed for expanding business and data centre environments. It delivers enterprise-class reliability for virtualization, database management, and software-defined storage workloads. This system arrives new and fully configured with dual processors and high-capacity storage.

Suited for storage-intensive workloads

This server suits IT teams needing dense 3.5-inch drive capacity in a 2U form factor for business-critical applications and virtualized infrastructure. It is not for buyers who require a tower chassis or a 1U rackmount footprint. It is not for deployments that need integrated GPU acceleration or front bezel and ready rails included.

Dual Xeon Gold 5118 processors with 512GB DDR4

Two Intel Xeon Gold 5118 processors run at 2.3GHz base frequency with 3.2GHz turbo across 12 cores each. The memory subsystem provides 512GB of DDR4-2400 ECC registered DIMMs across 16 slots. This compute and memory foundation determines whether the server matches your virtualization density and database performance requirements.

Questions about this item

What motherboard memory slots and CPU memory controllers are required to use the 16 DDR4-2400 ECC registered DIMMs?

The server includes two Xeon Gold 5118 processors and 16 DDR4-2400 ECC registered DIMMs already installed, so no additional memory hardware is needed.

Can the PERC H330 controller manage the 12 8TB 7.2K SAS drives together with older SATA drives in the same backplane?

The PERC H330 12Gb/s SAS/SATA controller supports both SAS and SATA drives, allowing the 12 8TB SAS drives to operate alongside compatible SATA drives in the 3.5-inch bays.

How can I confirm the iDRAC9 Express remote management is responding after initial network configuration?

Open a web browser to the iDRAC IP address; the iDRAC9 Express login page indicates the management controller is active and reachable.
