12-bay 2U rack server

The Dell PowerEdge R540 is a 2U rackmount server equipped with twelve 3.5-inch drive bays. It targets organisations that need high-capacity internal storage alongside dual-socket compute for virtualisation, databases or software-defined storage workloads.

Dual Xeon Gold 6130 with 128 GB DDR4

Two Intel Xeon Gold 6130 processors provide 16 cores each at a 2.1 GHz base frequency and 3.7 GHz turbo. The 128 GB DDR4-2666 ECC registered memory (8x 16 GB) supports large virtual-machine counts and in-memory databases; workloads that exceed this capacity will require additional DIMMs or a platform with more memory slots.

PERC H330 storage controller and dual 750 W PSUs

The PERC H330 12 Gb/s SAS/SATA controller manages the twelve 4 TB 7.2K SATA drives in a single enclosure. Dual 750 W platinum-efficiency power supplies deliver redundancy for continuous operation. Integrated dual-port Gigabit Ethernet and iDRAC 9 Express handle remote management without a dedicated console.

Questions about this item

Will the H330 controller still manage my existing 3.5" SATA drives if I move them into this 12-bay chassis?

Yes. The PERC H330 12Gb/s controller supports SATA 6Gb/s drives, so your current 3.5" SATA disks will be recognised and managed normally.

How can I confirm the two Xeon Gold 6130 processors are both active and running at the 2.1 GHz base clock after installation?

Open iDRAC 9 Express or the system BIOS; both will display two physical CPUs, each showing 16 cores at 2.1 GHz base frequency with 3.7 GHz turbo available.

The listing says front bezel and ready rails are not included — what exactly ships in the box so I know what to order separately?

The box contains the 2U server chassis with 2x Xeon Gold 6130 CPUs, 128 GB DDR4-2666 ECC RDIMMs, PERC H330 controller, 12x 4 TB 7.2K SATA drives, dual 1 GbE ports, iDRAC 9 Express, and 2x 750 W Platinum PSUs.
