Versatile 2U Rack Server

The Dell PowerEdge R540 is a 2U rack server built for virtualization, database management and software-defined storage in growing business environments. It delivers enterprise-class reliability with flexible configuration options for diverse infrastructure requirements.

Storage Controller and Remote Management

The PERC H330 controller provides 12Gb/s SAS and SATA connectivity across twelve 3.5-inch drive bays, currently populated with fillers. iDRAC 9 Express enables remote monitoring and administration without requiring physical access to the rack.

Redundant Power and Network Connectivity

Dual 750-watt platinum efficiency power supplies deliver redundant power for continuous operation. Integrated dual-port gigabit ethernet handles network traffic, while the chassis ships without a front bezel or ready rails for custom mounting arrangements.

Questions about this item

How often will the 750 Watt Platinum power supplies need replacement under continuous operation?

Platinum efficiency supplies in the R540 are designed for long service life; with redundant 2x 750W units, a single failure lets you swap the module without downtime.

What thermal limit appears first when both Xeon Gold 5118 CPUs sustain 3.2GHz Turbo across all 12 cores?

The 2U chassis airflow and dual 750W PSUs set the practical ceiling; sustained all-core Turbo will hit the platform power budget before CPU junction temperature becomes the bottleneck.

How loud are the system fans when the R540 runs 24/7 with 12 drive fillers and 16GB DDR4-2400 installed?

Idle fan speed is low in the 2U form factor; under full CPU and storage load the fans ramp to a noticeable but data-centre-typical level, well within rack aisle norms.
