Versatile 2U rack server

The Dell PowerEdge R540 is a 2U rackmount server built for expanding business and data centre environments. It delivers enterprise-class reliability with flexible configuration options for virtualization, software-defined storage, database applications and business-critical workloads.

Suited for storage-heavy workloads

This server suits organisations needing high-capacity 3.5-inch drive density in a compact 2U form factor. Buyers requiring front bezel or ready rails included should note these are not supplied. Environments needing integrated networking beyond dual-port Gigabit Ethernet will require additional PCIe adapters.

Dual 12-core Xeon Gold 5118 CPUs

Two Intel Xeon Gold 5118 processors run at 2.3 GHz with a 3.2 GHz turbo frequency, providing 24 total cores for demanding compute tasks. The 512 GB DDR4-2400 ECC registered memory kit uses 16 modules of 32 GB each.

Questions about this item

How loud and hot does the R540 get when the dual Xeon Gold 5118 processors run at 3.2GHz Turbo all day?

Two 750 Watt Platinum power supplies feed the 24 cores, and the 2U chassis uses redundant cooling fans designed for sustained data-centre loads.

Which drives and cables must I supply to populate the 12 front 3.5-inch bays that currently hold only fillers?

The PERC H330 controller accepts 12Gb/s SAS or SATA drives; you provide the drives and any required drive trays or cables.

Will my existing DDR4-2400 ECC registered DIMMs work alongside the 16 installed 32GB modules?

The server has 16 slots filled with 512GB total; matching DDR4-2400 ECC RDIMMs can be added if free slots remain.
