Server purpose

The Dell PowerEdge R540 is a 2U rack server built for virtualization, database workloads and software-defined storage. Dual Xeon Gold 6130 processors with 16 cores each provide strong multi-threaded performance. 64GB of DDR4-2666 ECC memory supports reliable operation under sustained loads. Twelve 8TB 7.2K SATA drives deliver high-capacity storage in a single chassis.

Build integration

The PERC H330 controller manages the twelve 3.5-inch drive bays using SAS and SATA connectivity. Dual integrated Gigabit Ethernet ports handle network traffic without additional cards. iDRAC 9 Express enables remote monitoring and administration independent of the operating system. Two 750W platinum power supplies provide redundancy for continuous uptime.

Thermals and power

Dual 750 watt platinum power supplies share the load and maintain operation if one unit fails. The 2U form factor allows standard rack airflow to cool both processors and the twelve hard drives. ECC registered memory reduces error-related interrupts that can increase system activity. Redundant power and remote management help maintain stability during extended deployments.
