2U Rack Server with 12 Bay Storage

The Dell EMC PowerEdge R540 is a 2U rackmount server built for growing business environments. It arrives new with dual Intel Xeon Silver 4114 processors, each offering 10 cores at 2.2GHz with 3.0GHz turbo capability. The system includes 64GB of DDR4-2400 ECC registered memory across four 16GB modules and a PERC H730P storage controller with 2GB cache supporting multiple RAID levels.

Suited for virtualization and database workloads

This configuration fits organisations running virtualization, software-defined storage or business-critical database applications that need balanced compute and high-capacity 3.5" drive support. The dual 750W platinum power supplies and iDRAC9 Express remote management provide enterprise reliability for data centre deployment. Buyers who require a smaller 1U form factor, GPU compute acceleration or direct-attached high-speed storage performance should look elsewhere.

PERC H730P RAID controller with 2GB cache

The storage controller determines whether this server matches your infrastructure. The H730P supports SAS and SATA drives with RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 plus pass-through mode, backed by a battery-protected 2GB cache. Twelve 3.5" drive bay fillers are included, but front bezel and ready rails are not supplied with this unit.

Questions about this item

How much power do the two 750W PSUs draw when the dual Xeon 4114 CPUs run all day?

The server includes two 750 watt platinum efficiency power supplies; actual draw depends on workload but the units are rated for high efficiency under sustained load.

Which rails or rack hardware must I already own to mount this 2U chassis?

The front bezel and ready rails are not included, so you will need compatible rack rails for a 2U Dell PowerEdge server.

Will my existing 3.5" SAS and SATA drives work with the H730P controller?

The PERC H730P supports SAS and SATA drives with RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60, so your current 3.5" drives are compatible.
