Versatile 2U rack server for virtualization

The Dell PowerEdge R540 is a 2U rack server built for virtualization, database hosting, file and application servers, and business-critical IT operations. It runs on dual Intel Xeon Gold 6130 processors, each with 16 cores at 2.1 GHz and a 3.7 GHz turbo frequency. The system includes 128 GB of DDR4 2666 MHz registered ECC memory across eight slots. Eight 8 TB 7.2K SAS hard drives provide high-capacity storage.

Sustained load handling

Under sustained load the dual 16-core Xeon processors deliver consistent multi-threaded performance for heavy workloads. The PERC H730P storage controller with 2 GB cache and battery backup maintains RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 performance during extended write operations. Two 750 W 80+ Platinum redundant power supplies keep the server running if one unit fails. iDRAC 9 Enterprise enables remote monitoring and automation without interrupting production tasks.

Enterprise build with hot-swap bays and remote

The 2U chassis holds eight hot-swap 3.5-inch drive bays for tool-less drive replacement during operation. Dual 1 GbE RJ45 ports on a dedicated network daughter card handle management and data traffic. iDRAC 9 Enterprise provides full remote console access, power control and hardware inventory over a separate management network. Sliding rails and a front bezel are included for standard rack installation. No operating system is pre-installed.
