A 2U rack server with dual 10-core Xeon Silver 4114 CPUs at 2.2 GHz, 32 GB DDR4, eight 8 TB SAS drives on an H730P controller, dual 1 GbE ports, iDRAC9 Enterprise and redundant 750 W power supplies
The Dell PowerEdge R540 is a 2U rack server equipped with two Intel Xeon Silver 4114 processors, each running at 2.20 GHz with 10 cores. It ships with 32 GB of DDR4 registered ECC memory across four modules and includes a PERC H730P controller with 2 GB cache. This configuration targets virtualization hosts, database servers, and file-storage workloads that need balanced compute and capacity.
Under continuous load both CPUs can reach a 3.0 GHz turbo frequency across their 10 cores while the H730P controller manages RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50, or 60 arrays on the eight 8 TB 7.2K SAS drives. Dual 750 W 80+ Platinum power supplies provide redundant hot-swap power, and iDRAC9 Enterprise enables remote monitoring and firmware updates without interrupting service.
The PERC H730P connects to the backplane at 12 Gb/s per lane, limiting each 3.5-inch drive to that interface speed. With 16 DIMM slots the memory ceiling is 1 TB, but only DDR4 modules are supported. Network connectivity is restricted to two 1 GbE RJ45 ports on the integrated daughter card, so high-throughput clustering will require an additional adapter.

Two 750W 80+ Platinum power supplies and two 10-core 2.20 GHz Xeon Silver 4114 processors deliver enterprise-grade efficiency; actual heat output varies with workload and inlet temperature.
Sliding rails and a bezel ship with the server; iDRAC 9 Enterprise provides browser-based remote management over the network without extra hardware.
The H730P 2GB 12Gb/s SAS/SATA controller supports RAID 0/1/5/6/10/50/60 and pass-through for 3.5" SAS or SATA drives installed in the 8-bay chassis.
