A 2U rack server with dual 16-core Xeon Gold 6130 CPUs, 32GB DDR4, and twelve 4TB SATA drives on an HBA330 controller
The Dell PowerEdge R540 is a 2U rack server built around two Intel Xeon Gold 6130 processors. Each CPU provides 16 cores at 2.1 GHz with a 3.7 GHz turbo frequency. The system ships with 32 GB of DDR4-2666 ECC registered memory across four modules. It is suited for virtualization, database and software-defined storage workloads in growing business environments.
Two 750 W platinum-efficiency power supplies deliver redundant power to the chassis. The 2U form factor accommodates twelve 3.5-inch drive bays populated with 7.2 K RPM enterprise SATA drives. Integrated dual-port Gigabit Ethernet and the PERC HBA330 controller handle I/O without adding discrete cards that would increase airflow demand.
The HBA330 controller provides 12 Gb/s SAS/SATA connectivity to all twelve bays, leaving PCIe slots free for additional networking or acceleration cards. iDRAC 9 Express enables remote monitoring and administration without a local console. The server arrives without front bezel or ready rails, so rack mounting hardware must be sourced separately.

Slide each 4TB 7.2K SATA drive into the front 12-bay chassis until the carrier locks; the step often missed is confirming the HBA330 detects all 12 drives in its BIOS before OS installation.
The 12x 4TB 7.2K SATA hard drives and the 2x 750W platinum power supplies are the primary field-replaceable units that typically reach end of life before the Xeon Gold 6130 CPUs or DDR4-2666 memory.
The dual 750W platinum PSUs set the power ceiling; sustained 3.7GHz turbo on all 32 cores can exceed their combined output, triggering throttling before the 2U cooling reaches its limit.
