1U rack server for dense compute

The Dell PowerEdge R630 fits a single Intel Xeon E5-2637 V3 quad-core processor running at 3.5GHz with 48GB of DDR4 memory in a 1U chassis. It targets workloads that need high clock speed per core rather than maximum core count, such as single-threaded applications or licence-constrained software.

Dual 750W supplies and eight 2.5-inch bays

Redundant hot-swap power supplies keep the system running if one unit fails. The front panel accepts up to eight hot-plug SAS or SATA drives, while the dedicated PERC H330 controller handles RAID 0, 1, 5, 10, 50 and 60 without consuming a PCIe 3.0 slot. Three additional PCIe 3.0 slots remain free for networking or acceleration cards.

iDRAC8 remote management and four 1GbE ports

The integrated iDRAC8 with Lifecycle Controller provides out-of-band hardware monitoring, firmware updates and virtual console access over a dedicated network connection. A daughter card supplies four 1GbE interfaces for production traffic, and the Matrox G200 graphics chip drives basic video output for local console use.

Questions about this item

Does the single E5-2637 v3 processor limit sustained compute throughput?

The installed Xeon E5-2637 v3 provides four cores at 3.5 GHz with hyper-threading for eight threads; a second processor socket is available to double that capacity.

How much heat and noise do the dual 750 W supplies generate in a 1U rack all day?

Redundant 750 W hot-swap supplies share the load, keeping each unit below peak output and allowing fan speeds to stay lower during continuous operation.

Which drive trays and cables are required to populate the eight 2.5-inch bays?

The chassis accepts up to eight 2.5-inch hot-plug SAS or SATA drives; trays and cables are not included and must be sourced separately.
