Dual-socket 1U rack server with 2× Xeon Gold 6134 3.2 GHz 8-core CPUs, 512 GB DDR4 ECC memory, PERC H730P RAID controller, 8× 2.5″ drive trays, quad-port 1 GbE/10 GbE networking.
The Dell PowerEdge R640 is a dual-socket 1U rack server built for scale-out data centre workloads. Two Intel Xeon Gold 6134 processors run at 3.2 GHz with a 3.7 GHz turbo across 16 total cores. The system ships with 512 GB of DDR4 2666 MHz registered ECC memory installed across 16 of 24 slots. A PERC H730P 2 GB controller manages up to eight 2.5-inch SAS or SATA drive bays.
Organisations running dense virtualisation, high-frequency trading or in-memory databases benefit from the high core count and large memory footprint in a single rack unit. The quad-port network daughter card provides two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ links for flexible fabric connectivity. Buyers who need more than eight internal drive bays, GPU acceleration or additional processor sockets should consider larger chassis.
The platform supports a maximum of 3 TB of DDR4 across 24 DIMM slots using the Intel C620 chipset. With 512 GB already populated, there is headroom for significant expansion before hitting the architectural limit. This ceiling determines whether the server can accommodate future working-set growth without a platform change.

Other versions of this model
Yes — the unit ships with eight empty 2.5″ SAS/SATA trays and no drives installed, so you must supply your own SATA or SAS drives.
The H730P supports both SATA and SAS drives, so your SATA SSDs are compatible and can be configured in RAID 0/1/5/6/10/50/60 or pass-through mode.
Check the iDRAC9 Enterprise dashboard or the BIOS memory map — both will show all 16× 32 GB registered ECC modules running at 2666 MHz.
