Dual 12-core Xeon Gold 5118 processors with 768GB DDR4 ECC memory, PERC H730P RAID controller, quad-port 1GbE and 10Gb SFP+ networking, iDRAC9 Enterprise, and redundant 750W power in a 1U rack chassis
The Dell PowerEdge R640 is a 1U rack server built for scale-out data center workloads. It ships with two Intel Xeon Gold 5118 processors, each running at 2.3 GHz with 12 cores and a 3.2 GHz turbo frequency. The system includes 768 GB of DDR4 2400 MHz registered ECC memory across 24 slots and a PERC H730P controller with 2 GB cache. Redundant 750 W platinum power supplies, iDRAC 9 Enterprise, and a quad-port 1 GbE and 10 Gb SFP+ network daughter card complete the configuration. Rails and a front bezel are included.
This server suits buyers who need maximum compute density in a single rack unit with dual-socket performance and large memory capacity. The eight 2.5-inch SAS/SATA trays support high spindle-count storage arrays behind the hardware RAID controller. Buyers who require more than eight front-accessible drive bays or a taller chassis for additional expansion cards should consider a different form factor. The installed CPU count is already at the platform maximum of two sockets.
The chassis provides exactly eight hot-swap trays for 2.5-inch SAS or SATA drives with no drives installed. The PERC H730P controller supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50, 60 and pass-through modes. Storage capacity and performance are determined entirely by the drives you populate in these eight bays.
