1U rack server with dual 12-core Xeon Gold 5118 CPUs, 64GB DDR4, eight 400GB SATA SSDs and PERC H730P RAID
The PowerEdge R640 is a 1U rackmount server fitted with two Intel Xeon Gold 5118 processors, each running at 2.3 GHz with 12 cores. It includes 64 GB of DDR4 registered ECC memory across four 16 GB modules and a PERC H730P controller with 2 GB cache. Eight 400 GB SATA SSDs occupy the 2.5-inch drive bays, and dual 750 W platinum power supplies provide redundancy.
This configuration targets environments that need high compute density in a single rack unit, such as virtualisation clusters, database nodes, or high-performance computing farms. The quad-port network daughter card adds two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ links, while iDRAC 9 Enterprise enables full remote management. Buyers who require more than 24 DIMM slots, additional PCIe expansion, or a different drive interface should look elsewhere.
The storage subsystem is fixed at eight 400 GB SATA solid-state drives managed by the H730P RAID controller, which supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 plus pass-through. This capacity and interface combination determines whether the server can hold the working dataset or whether a larger or differently connected array is needed.

Other versions of this model
Open the controller BIOS or iDRAC9 Enterprise storage view; it should show all eight drives online in the configured RAID level with no foreign configurations or rebuilds in progress.
The server ships with two Xeon Gold 5118 processors, four 16 GB DDR4 modules, eight 400 GB SATA SSDs, the H730P controller, X520/I350 network daughter card, iDRAC9 Enterprise, two 750 W PSUs, bezel and rails; OS licences and extra memory or drives are not included.
The chassis has 24 DDR4 slots supporting up to 3 TB total; the current 64 GB uses four slots, leaving 20 slots free for future expansion with registered ECC modules.
