Dual-socket 1U rack server with two 12-core Xeon Gold 5118 CPUs, 512GB DDR4 ECC memory, PERC H730P RAID controller, two 400GB SATA SSDs, quad-port 1GbE and 10Gb SFP+ networking.
The Dell PowerEdge R640 is a 1U rack server built around two Intel Xeon Gold 5118 processors. Each CPU runs at 2.3GHz with 12 cores and a 3.2GHz turbo frequency. The system includes 512GB of DDR4 registered ECC memory across 16 modules and a PERC H730P controller with 2GB cache. Two 400GB SATA SSDs and redundant 750W platinum power supplies are installed.
This configuration fits virtualisation, database and high-performance computing clusters that benefit from dual-socket density and quad-port 1GbE plus dual 10Gb SFP+ networking. iDRAC9 Enterprise provides full remote management. Buyers who need GPU acceleration or more than eight 2.5-inch drive bays should consider a different platform.
The chassis supports eight hot-swap 2.5-inch drives served by the H730P controller offering RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 plus pass-through mode. Two 400GB SATA SSDs occupy two bays today; the remaining six bays are free for additional SATA or SAS media.

The 512GB capacity is delivered as 16 modules of 32GB DDR4 2400MHz registered ECC, filling 16 of the 24 available slots and leaving 8 slots open for future expansion up to the 3TB maximum supported by the Intel C620 chipset.
The H730P provides 12Gb/s SAS/SATA connectivity with 2GB cache and battery backup; the two 400GB SATA SSDs attach via the SATA interface and the controller supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 plus pass-through mode.
The server ships with Dell Ready Rails and a front bezel, allowing it to be installed in a standard rack enclosure without additional rail kits.
