A 1U rack server with dual Xeon Gold 6134 3.2GHz processors, 256GB DDR4 ECC memory, a PERC H730P controller and eight 1.2TB SAS drives
The Dell PowerEdge R640 is a dual-socket 1U rack server built for scale-out data centre workloads. Two Intel Xeon Gold 6134 processors run at 3.2 GHz with 8 cores each. The system ships with 256 GB of DDR4 2666 MHz registered ECC memory across 8 modules. Eight 1.2 TB 10K SAS drives connect through a PERC H730P 2 GB controller supporting RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60.
This configuration suits virtualisation hosts, database clusters and high-performance computing nodes that need dense CPU and memory capacity in a single rack unit. Redundant 750 W platinum power supplies and iDRAC 9 Enterprise remote management support continuous operation. Buyers who need more than 24 memory slots or more than eight 2.5 inch drive bays will need a larger chassis.
The storage subsystem provides eight 1.2 TB 10K SAS drives managed by the H730P controller with 2 GB cache and battery backup. This drive count and RAID flexibility determine whether the server meets capacity and redundancy requirements for the target workload.
