Dual-socket 1U rack server with two 24-core Xeon Platinum 8160 CPUs at 2.1 GHz, 128 GB DDR4, PERC H730P RAID controller and eight 600 GB SAS drives
The Dell PowerEdge R640 is a 1U rack server built for scale-out data centre workloads. Two Intel Xeon Platinum 8160 processors run at 2.1 GHz with 24 cores each. The system includes 128 GB of DDR4 registered ECC memory across 24 slots. Eight 600 GB 10K SAS drives connect through a PERC H730P controller with 2 GB cache. Dual 750 W platinum power supplies provide redundancy.
This configuration fits teams running virtualised workloads, high-performance databases or parallel applications that benefit from dual-socket density. The 1U height maximises rack space while the quad-port 1GbE and 10Gb SFP+ network card handles mixed traffic. Buyers needing solid-state storage or GPU acceleration should evaluate other platforms.
The installed Dell PERC H730P manages the eight SAS drives with support for RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 plus pass-through mode. Battery-backed cache protects in-flight writes during power loss. This controller determines the storage performance and data-protection options available for the configured drive set.

Check the iDRAC9 Enterprise interface or BIOS during POST; both report the active core speeds for the two 24-core 2.1GHz Xeon Platinum 8160 CPUs.
Included: 2x Xeon Platinum 8160 CPUs, 128GB DDR4 2666MHz ECC (8x 16GB), PERC H730P 2GB controller, 8x 600GB 10K SAS 2.5" drives, X520/I350 quad-port NIC, iDRAC9 Enterprise, 2x 750W PSUs, rails and bezel. No extra parts are required for basic operation.
The eight bays are populated with 600GB 10K SAS drives; if more capacity is needed you must replace them with compatible SAS or SATA drives supported by the H730P controller.
